Ethics Policy

CHEATING on exams, PLAGIARISM, or COLLUSION will not be tolerated.  A Statement of Ethics will be provided for you to read, sign, return, and follow.  Violators of the ethics code will be reported to the Dean.  Students are encouraged to discuss programming assignments with other students in the class and other classes.  However, the actual coding should be done individually.  Sharing your code with another student, even temporarily, is collusionCopying code (e.g., from a tutor, another student or from a previous semester) is plagiarism.  If academic dishonesty is suspected, the case may be referred to the VP for Student Affairs for resolution.  Students who violate University rules on scholastic dishonesty are subject to disciplinary penalties, including the possibility of failure in the course and dismissal from the University.  Since dishonesty harms the individual, all students, and the integrity of the University, policies on scholastic dishonesty will be strictly enforced.

You will receive computer accounts on the omega minicomputer.  These accounts are to be used only by the person assigned to them and only for the work assigned in this class.  Allowing another person to use the account or using the account for any purpose other than the work assigned in class is grounds for having the account withdrawn, as well as being a criminal offense.

Cost-Share Tutoring

If you require help beyond what you can reasonably expect from your lab instructor, their office hours and the open lab, then you should consider getting a tutor. Tutoring is $4.50 per hour and is charged to your student account. To sign up for tutoring and receive tutors’ names and telephone numbers, go to 130 Hammond Hall M-F 8-5pm or WTh 5-7pm. Study groups of 4-10 people may be formed for $20 per semester. See SOAR staff members for information. Phone 272-2617.
