1.      Your name:

2.      Which session did you attend?

                        __ Group #1            Wed 11/12  3:00 – 5:00

                        __ Group #2            Wed 11/12  6:00 – 8:00

                        __ Group #3            Thurs 11/13  3:00 – 5:00

                        __ Group #4            Fri 11/14  3:00 – 5:00

(If none of these, you should contact your instructor.)

3.      In the presentation, you were given the project objective, the design specifications (requirements and constraints), and the design/production factors to consider.

The Engineering Design Process is often described as having the following steps:

a.       identify the customer need or opportunity

b.      write the problem definition and specifications

c.       gather data and collect information

d.      develop alternative designs

e.       evaluate the designs and select the optimal design

f.        implement the optimal design

For the case study you attended, describe the design process in detail:

For a., identify the need/opportunity in this case study.

For b., write in your own words a Problem Statement for the Case Study.   (We know the

specifications are provided in the handout.)

For c., identify what data gathering was done by the Lockheed Martin team

For d., mention what alternatives they considered.

For e., list the top 4 factors your group considered to be most important in evaluating designs, and for each provide your group’s rationale for the choice (tell why you think that was important).  Then explain why you rank ordered them the way you did.

For f., describe (as best you can) what was the optimal design chosen.

4.   Provide an evaluation of the session by answering the following questions.  Your answers will not “count” for or against you, so be honest.    The requirement is that you complete the evaluation FOR YOU.

Using a scale of 1-5 (1 = not useful, 5 = extremely useful), indicate your answer to each of these questions:

______  How useful was the presentation FOR YOU?

______  How useful do you believe the presentation was for other engineering majors?

______  How useful would YOU consider it to be if the College of Engineering arranged

for other case studies on engineering topics?

What was the best part of the presentation FOR YOU?

What would you have changed about the presentation?
